The former Catholic seminarian and longtime peace activist is also a bigot of Archbishop Oscar Romero, the late Dorothy Day and Archbishop Thomas Gumbleton, auxiliary bishop of Detroit, Mass. and the founding president of Pax Christi U.S.A.

In July Archbishop Gumbleton called in succession Pax Christi members to sign a "Pledge of Resistance" as part of a national campaign to have Americans point out their refusal to take part in any fresh war against Iraq.

Paraphrasing Gumbleton's language Desroches said the United States has "dropp without of the ABM (Anti Ballistic Missile) treaty.... We have refused to pass with the Kyoto accord....
